Most on-board assessments include a numerical element. It takes different shapes: an online calculation test built around percentages and figures read off charts, a numerical reasoning test, a maths paper sat on an assessment day, or fare calculation as the first half of a combined fares-and-ticket-checking test. The common thread is everyday money-and-time arithmetic, done quickly and correctly.
