Rules & Procedures practice
A rules exercise is the one that turns up most often in conductor, guard and train manager selection. You are given a page of invented rules, you get a short time to take them in, and then you answer questions that can only be settled by applying those rules exactly as written. They are not railway rules, and you are not expected to know anything in advance. Our full run gives you three minutes with the rule book, then twenty-four questions in seventeen minutes, with the rules back on screen for the second half.
What this exercise is measuring
How quickly you absorb written procedure you have never seen before, and how accurately you apply it when the clock is running and the wording is deliberately fiddly.
